NomioChoose a file renamer by the task you need to finish and the permissions available on your device. A browser tool can suit a short numbering job; a desktop app may be a better fit for metadata rules or reusable workflows.

When Nomio fits — and when it does not
Nomio offers Numbering, Replacing and Scripting with a filename preview. The built-in rules work on your device without uploading file contents or names. Custom scripts are code you supply; only run scripts you trust. Read the privacy details before using sensitive files.
Browser support is conditional. Nomio checks for directory selection and file move support before enabling the tool. Being able to read this article does not mean that your browser can rename files. A browser brand or version alone is not a guarantee, and mobile support is not promised. See browser support and permissions; if the tool reports that renaming is unavailable, choose a supported desktop environment or a native app.
Nomio is a reasonable option when your browser passes that check, you can grant access to the containing folder, and your task is filename numbering or replacement. Choose a different workflow when you need to rename folders, chain several rules in one run, or run unattended jobs. An installation restriction does not automatically mean your organization permits browser file access.
Try one small, checkable task
For a text replacement, start with copies named draft-notes.txt and draft-budget.txt. In Nomio, choose Replacing, use draft as the search text and final as the replacement. Keep regular expressions off for this literal example.
The preview should show final-notes.txt and final-budget.txt, with the .txt extensions preserved. Check that neither destination name already exists, then apply the rename to the copies. Read the files afterwards to confirm their contents are unchanged. This demonstrates a specific task; it is not evidence that Nomio outperforms another tool.
For numbering, the help examples explain how to turn photo.jpg into 001-photo.jpg. Check the list order before applying a numbering rule. Nomio does not keep your selected files across a reload, and an error report is not an automatic undo.

Choose by the work you repeat
- Already using PowerToys on Windows: consider PowerRename for an Explorer-based replacement task. Its official guide documents preview and undo behavior.
- Need camera or music metadata in filenames: compare the fields documented by Bulk Rename Utility, Renamer and ReNamer against your actual files. Do not assume filesystem modification time is the photo capture date.
- Need several transformations: compare Advanced Renamer’s method limits and Renamer’s chains, or ReNamer’s ordered presets. Test the order on copies.
- Need a browser-only numbering or replacement task: check Nomio’s browser support, folder permission and preview first.
- Need scheduled automation: use a workflow that supports unattended execution and records what changed. An interactive browser permission flow is not a scheduler.
Before renaming a large batch
Use a small copied folder to check extensions, non-English names, existing destination names and ordering. Keep a backup if the originals matter. Local processing alone does not establish a product’s entire privacy policy, so check the policy and any optional online features separately.
